DE Lanston Tanyi
May 12, 2013
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.–Former Colorado State defensive end Lanston Tanyi has agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos, the team announced Sunday. Tanyi participated in the Broncos’ rookie minicamp, which began Friday and concluded today.
Tanyi, voted most valuable player for 2012 by his Rams teammates, participated in the Washington Redskins’ rookie minicamp last weekend.
“I do believe it helped in terms of not being as nervous and knowing what to expect,” Tanyi said of his experience a week ago with the Redskins. “I wasn’t really sleeping that much. I think I did a great job there, but they were really deep at the position. They liked me, but when I came (to the Broncos’ camp) I’m a 4-3 defensive end. Either one of those are positions that are more natural for me than the 3-4 defensive end that I was. Going back to my natural position I was able to just show that it was more natural for me.”
Tanyi is relieved to take another big step in his journey toward an NFL career, and confident he can build on what he has done thus far.
“That’s the biggest thing, to get that out of the way,” Tanyi said of signing an NFL contract. “Phase one is complete. Now, the next step is to try to make the active roster. To actually get this stress out of me and be able to focus now with tunnel vision on what I need to do to get to that next phase is a great feeling.”
Tanyi played the 2012 season at CSU while taking graduate courses after receiving his undergraduate degree from Appalachian State. He earned second-team All-Mountain West honors, making 77 tackles, second-most among MW defensive linemen and second-most by a CSU lineman since 1988. His six quarterback hurries were the most by a Rams player since 1999.
