FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Colorado State football team, under the direction of third-year head coach Mike Bobo, will begin spring practice on Tuesday, March 21. The 15-practice spring period will conclude with the annual Green and Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m., played on campus.
With the new stadium set for completion this summer, the team will take the first step toward bringing football back to campus by holding the annual spring game on the field just west of the Lory Student Center. Known as the Lagoon Field, it has served as the home field for the Rams’ women’s soccer team for the past three seasons. The game is free and open to the public.
Playing the Spring Game on campus will give students and fans the opportunity to begin to experience some of what game day will be this fall when football games return to campus on Sonny Lubick Field at the new stadium. Student gameday programming will take place in close proximity to the Lagoon Field, labeled as Field 12 on the map at this link, when the season begins at the new stadium.
Fans who attend the Green and Gold Spring Game on April 22 may park in the following campus lots at no charge: Moby Arena, Lory Student Center, Morgan Library, the Lake Street Garage and the South College Garage. As will be the case when the on-campus stadium opens this fall, parking for events is not permitted in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus.
To kick off the spring practice period, Coach Bobo will hold his spring practice press conference on Monday, March 20, at 1 p.m. MT in the McGraw Center Auditorium. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Will Friend and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Marty English also will take part in the press conference. The first of 15 team workouts is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 21, at 3:50 p.m.
The Rams enter the highly-anticipated 2017 season with 15 starters returning on offense and defense, including first-team All-Mountain West wide receiver Michael Gallup. Senior center Jake Bennett was a second-team All-MW choice in 2016, while senior quarterback Nick Stevens returns after earning second-team All-MW in 2015 and honorable mention in 2016. That trio leads an offensive unit that ranked among the most productive in all of FBS over the final six games of last season, averaging 47.8 points (2nd) and 533.8 yards (4th) per game, and for the season ranked fourth in red zone offense (94.6%).
Nine starters return on the defensive side of the ball from a Rams team that earned a fourth consecutive bowl invitation last season and recorded six shutout halves. The bowl streak ranks as the second-longest in school history, behind the five consecutive postseason appearances from 1999-2003. CSU also welcomes a promising class of incoming signees that was ranked second in the MW by most recruiting services.
New season ticket commitments are now being accepted by contacting the Rams Sales Team at 800-491-RAMS (7267) or visiting www.CSURams.com/tickets. Current season-ticketholders will have first priority to select their seats during appointed times set to begin March 22. Those who have purchased new season tickets in 2017 will have the opportunity to work directly with a member of the Rams Sales Team to select their seat location beginning in May. Rams Sales Team members will contact new season ticket holders directly.
In preparation for the inaugural season at the on-campus stadium, the Colorado State athletics department has launched a special football gameday website, which provides in-depth information on everything from tickets to parking, tailgating, gameday logistics and much more. The website can be found at www.CSURams.com/footballgameday.
Weekday practices will take place in the afternoon at CSU's on-campus practice fields. Saturday practices will generally take place in the morning. Practices are not open to the public. Practice days are scheduled to be March 21, 23, 25, 28, 30 and April 1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18 and 20.
