Record-number 47 Rams earn Fall 2013 Academic All-Mountain West honors

Jan. 30, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Forty-seven Colorado State student-athletes earned recognition from the Mountain West for their work in the classroom during the fall 2013 seasons. The Fall 2013 Mountain West Academic All-Conference honorees, which were announced by the league on Thursday, are represented by 534 total student-athletes from the MW, a new league record.

The 47 student-athletes honored from CSU represent all five of the university's fall varsity athletics programs: men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball. The total is a program record, surpassing the previous high of 36, set each of the past two fall seasons.

Three student-athletes hold a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0, including freshman cross country runner Alex Hess, freshman football player Jake Schlager and freshman soccer player Carly Seib. A total of 12 student-athletes hold cumulative grade-point averages above 3.75.

In order to qualify for Fall 2013 Mountain West Academic All-Conference status, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic semester at the member institution, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's varsity contests this past season.

Student-athletes at Colorado State are expected to ‘Do it all’, a mantra introduced by athletic director Jack Graham that includes being a person of high character, excelling in the classroom and winning. In addition to high academic achievement, three CSU sport programs competed in NCAA championship competition this fall, helping the Rams rank high in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall standings.
