2012 (senior): Played in all 12 games for the Rams in his only season at CSU, and started 10. Finished the season with 77 tackles, the third-most on the team, and three sacks.Transferred to Colorado State with one year of eligibility remaining after earning his bachelor's degree from Appalachian State in electronic media/broadcasting. He enrolled in graduate school at CSU and was eligibile to play immediately.

  • Was named the football program's Most Valuable Player by his teammates.
  • Earned second-team All-Mountain West honors voted by the conference. Phil Steele named him third-team all-conference.
  • Finished third on the team with 77 tackles, the most by a Rams defensive lineman since 1995 and second-most by any Mountain West defensive lineman in 2012.
  • Finished the season with six hurries, the most by a Colorado State player since 1991.
  • In his first career game with the Green and Gold, he scooped up a Colorado (Sept. 1) fumble and returned it to midfield.
  • For the home-opener against North Dakota State (Sept. 8) he was moved to defensive end where he became a permanent fixture of the starting lineup. He recorded eight tackles and recovered his second fumble of the season.
  • In CSU's first true road game of 2012 at San Jose State (Sept. 15), recorded double-digit tackles (10).
  • The week of the Utah State (Sept. 22) game, was voted a defensive captain by his teammates.
  • Homecoming weekend against Fresno State (Oct. 6), had 12 tackles and his first sack at CSU.
  • In a Rams home victory over Hawai'i (Oct. 27) played over 100 snaps on defense and special teams, while recording a career-high 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks. His 13 tackles are the most by a Rams defensive lineman since 2005 when Jake Pottorff's compiled 16 tackles at Houston in 2007. This performance also earned him National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter Player of the Week.
  • For the second time this season was named defensive captain prior to playing at Boise State (Nov. 17).
  • In his first and only Border War against Wyoming (Nov. 3) had his fourth double-digit tackle performance of the season with 10 tackles.


2011 (junior): Played in four games for the Mountaineers... Recorded 20 tackles and two tackles for loss.

2010 (junior): Sustained a severe injury to his left foot during fall camp and underwent season-ending surgery ... received a medical redshirt.

2009 (sophomore): Played in 13 games for the Mountaineers and logged nine starts at defensive end... earned second-team all-Southern Conference honors... Led ASU and tied for 25 nationally with 7.5 sacks... Finished the season with 75 tackles, a mark that was third best on the team... Recorded 11 tackles for loss... Suffered a season-ending left knee injury during a non-contact punt drill just days before the national semifinals match up at Montana.

2008 (freshman): At Appalachian State he was one of only two true freshman starters... started nine games for the Mountaineers on the defensive line... tied for the team lead with six sacks... finished the season with 52 tackles, including seven behind the line of scrimmage and the Southern Conferences best sacks total.

High School: At Shelby High School was a two-time all-state defensive lineman ... also earned all-conference and all-county accolades ... Shrine Bowl participant ... amassed 237 tackles and 25 sacks over final two prep seasons, including 123 stops, 10 sacks, five blocked kicks, three fumble recoveries and an interception as a senior ... coached by Chris Norman.

Personal: Full name is Lanston Nkenglerac Tanyi ... born Oct. 2, 1990... son of Stephanie and Joseph Tanyi ... is the second-youngest of five children in his family... earned a degree at ASU in communication - electronic/media broadcasting... at CSU will work towards a Master's in education human resources
