The quarterback on the Rocky Mountain News' all-Colorado team, earned Front Range League Player of the Year honors in 2007 at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo. -- two miles south of the CSU campus...A first-team all-state selection as a senior, was a captain in each of his final two years...A starter for only one-and-a-half seasons, passed for 3,555 career yards and 40 TDs -- both RMHS records -- with only seven INTs in 325 attempts...In 2007, led the Lobos to an 8-3 mark, a share of the conference championship and a trip to Round 2 of the Class 5A playoffs...Finished second among state passing leaders with a school-record 2,349 yards, and threw for 27 touchdowns, another Lobos record...Also completed 115 of 205 passes and threw the fewest interceptions (five) among state passers with at least 200 attempts...Had seven rushing TDs...Against Eaglecrest, passed for 331 yards and three scores, while recording 50 yards and two more TDs on the ground, including 35- and 39-yard scores...Later in the year, turned in a pair of five-TD efforts over a three-game stretch, throwing for 304 yards against Northglenn and 370 vs. Smoky Hill...Head coach was Mark Brook...Also played outfield for the Lobos' baseball team, leading the squad to consecutive Class 5A state championships, in 2007 and `08...As a senior in the state tournament, hit a tiebreaking grand slam against Chatfield...Lettered three years in football and three in baseball...Had a 3.9 grade-point average and twice earned academic all-state accolades in both football and baseball...Also garnered all-Colorado honors in baseball, becoming the first CSU student-athlete this decade to receive such recognition in multiple sports (also football)...Given the Fort Collins Coloradoan Athletic Excellene Award as the city's best male prep athlete...Played against new teammates Zach Donaldson and Matt Yemm (Fort Collins)...Chose CSU over interest from Illinois, Missouri, Montana State, Northern Colorado and Oregon.
