2011 (Junior): Secured the starting role during fall camp and played in 10 games, with 10 starts...Finished second on the team in both sacks (five) and tackles for loss (eight), in addition to 36 total stops (18 solo) and a deflected pass...A starting DE at New Mexico (Sept. 3) in season-opening, 14-10 win, also played defensive tackle on occasion...Sacked Lobos QB Tarean Austin on a second-quarter series that eventually ended in a punt, then with just over four minutes left in the game, and CSU protecting a 14-10 lead, combined with Shaquil Barrett to sack Austin on fourth-and-14...Did not play at Northern Colorado (Sept. 10)...Returned to the starting lineup in Denver loss vs. Colorado (Sept. 17) and sacked QB Tyler Hansen on third down to force a first-quarter punt; also forced a punt early in fourth quarter, after hurrying Hansen into an incompletion...In exhilarating win at Utah State (Sept. 24); with USU attempting a game-winning two-point conversion in the second overtime, helped preserve a 35-34 triumph by denying RB Robert Turbin at the point of attack, flushing him to the sideline where Momo Thomas forced him out of bounds...Early in 38-31 loss vs. San Jose State (Oct. 1), made a nice play to deflect a first-quarter screen pass...In loss vs. No. 5 Boise State (Oct. 15), sacked Heisman candidate Kellen Moore, only the third sack allowed by the Broncos at that point in the season...Had an impressive game in loss at UTEP (Oct. 22), sacking QB Nick Lamaison on the last play of the third quarter, and combining on a first-quarter tackle for loss...In loss at UNLV (Oct. 29), extended his sacks streak to three games, bringing down Caleb Herring to force a punt late in the first half with CSU protecting a three-point lead; earlier, dropped RB Bradley Randle for a loss to force an eventual FG attempt.
2010 (Sophomore): After ending his true freshman campaign in promising fashion, tore meniscus in his knee while conditioning on the eve of fall camp and underwent arthroscopic surgery; missed only three games and played in the season's final nine contests, starting the final five...Had 25 tackles (nine solo), four for loss, 1½ sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and, after coaches' video tabulations, 13 QB hurries, second on the team...Made his 2010 debut in dramatic 36-34 triumph over Idaho (Sept. 25) on CSU's first defensive series, picking up a QB hit on his first 2010 snap...Played most of the ensuing week vs. No. 5 TCU (Oct. 2); combined to stop Ed Wesley for no gain on an early third-and-1, forcing a first-quarter punt, then flushed QB Andy Dalton out of the pocket on a pair of second-quarter incompletions, helping to end two more drives...At No. 9 Utah (Oct. 23), made his first career start, in place of Broderick Sargent (concussion); in the first quarter, picked up a QB hurry, flushing Jordan Wynn out of the pocket, then combined with Mychal Sisson to sack Wynn, only the third sack allowed by the Utes up to that point in the season...On the last play of the third quarter in Utah contest, forced a Reggie Dunn fumble that was recovered by the Utes...Made a second straight start, this time at left end, in 38-14 win vs. New Mexico (Oct. 30), combining with Guy Miller late in the first quarter to drop James Wright for a 1-yard loss...In loss vs. BYU (Nov. 13), recovered a third-quarter fumble after Mychal Sisson popped the ball from the hands of QB Jake Heaps; then forced an incompletion on the Cougars' next drive, pressuring Heaps...At Wyoming (Nov. 20), dropped Austyn Carta-Samuels to help force a first-quarter FG attempt, his first full sack since the previous Wyoming game, Nov. 27, 2009, in Fort Collins, giving him three career sacks against the Cowboys.
2009 (Freshman): Played in 11 games as a reserve lineman, finishing with 16 tackles (seven solo), three tackles for loss including two sacks, and one forced fumble...A true freshman, opted to forego all the pomp and circumstance of his final high-school semester and graduated early, enrolling at CSU in January to take part in spring practice...Head start gave him leg up and helped him earn reserve role in DL rotation...Made his college debut in resounding 23-17 win at Colorado (Sept. 6); on his first snap, midway through the first quarter, Elijah-Blu Smith picked off Cody Hawkins; also saw fourth-quarter action as part of CSU's DL rotation...In 24-23 win vs. Weber State (Sept. 12), picked up a QB hurry on a second-quarter incompletion...In conference-opening loss at No. 19 BYU (Sept. 26), saw significant snaps with reserve Eugene Daniels (knee) sidelined...Also played every quarter in bitter 31-29 loss at Idaho (Oct. 3), entering the game on the first series...Played most of game in 24-17 loss vs. Utah (Oct. 10); his first-quarter hurry pressured Terrance Cain into an underthrown pass in which Nick Oppenneer intercepted... In second quarter of loss at No. 8 TCU (Oct. 17), combined to drop RB Joseph Turner shy of the sticks and force a punt...Did not play in loss vs. San Diego State (Oct. 24) with toe injury...In last-second loss at New Mexico (Nov. 21), registered a hurry on a first-quarter incompletion...Enjoyed a breakout game in 17-16 loss vs. Wyoming (Nov. 27), registering his career's first two sacks...Notched Sack No. 1 in the first quarter, dropping Austyn Carta-Samuels and forcing a third-down fumble recovered by the Cowboys after a 21-yard net loss that knocked Wyoming out of field-goal position; the momentum-turning play came just three snaps after Wyoming had pierced CSU territory on a 42-yard pass, and one play after James had combined to drop the QB for a 2-yard loss on a designed run...Sack No. 2 came on the first play of Wyoming's second-quarter drive after CSU had driven for a TD; again dropped fellow true freshman Carta-Samuels, for a 15-yard loss, leading to an eventual three-and-out punt.
High School: Graduated one semester early...As a senior at Colonial High School in Orlando, Fla., made 110 tackles (85 solo) and 10 sacks, picked off a pass and recovered three fumbles...His 110 tackles set a single-season school record, helping him earn all-state honorable mention...Played in the East-West Central Florida All-Star Game (two sacks, eight tackles) with fellow CSU signee Curtis Wilson...Had 15 tackles, two sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery in a 19-7 victory over Cypress Creek...Made 10 tackles and three sacks, and recovered a fumble in a CHS victory...Played defensive end and linebacker for the Grenadiers...Made 65 tackles and had three sacks as a junior...Was Orlando's top recruit at defensive end and also was recruited by Central Florida, South Florida, Iowa State and Michgan.
