Opening tip

  • Colorado State hosts the final game of a 10-game home stand, opening Mountain West play with a New Year's Day matchup against No. 21/19 San Diego State. 
  • The tilt between the Rams and the Aztecs is set for a 7 p.m. MT tipoff at Moby Arena. 
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action. 
  • The contest will also be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, with Rich Waltz (play-by-play) and Pete Gillen (color) on the call. 
  • The matchup is the 72nd in the series. Colorado State holds a 37-34 advantage all-time against the Aztecs, including a 24-9 mark in Fort Collins. 

About San Diego State

  • San Diego State enters Wednesday's Mountain West opener ranked No. 21 in the AP poll and No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches' rankings with a 10-1 record, having won nine straight since a 69-60 home loss to then No. 6/5-ranked Arizona on Nov. 14.  
  • The Aztecs boast two wins over ranked opponents, both coming on in back-to-back games on a neutral court vs. No. 20/18 Creighton (86-80) and No. 25/RV Marquette (67-59) on Nov. 28 and Dec. 1. 
  • SDSU is led by senior guard Xavier Thames who ranks 11th in the MW averaging 15.6 points per game. 
  • The Aztecs also boast one of the nation's top rebounders in Tulane transfer Josh Davis who ranks second in the MW and sixth nationally at 10.7 rebounds per game. 
  • As a team, the Aztecs rank fourth in the MW, scoring 77.2 points per game, but lead the nation defensively allowing just 52.6 points per contest. 
  • Head Coach Steve Fisher is in his 15th year at SDSU, where he has compiled a 291-172 record. Fisher is 475-254 overall in his 23rd season as a Division I head coach. 

Series vs. San Diego State

  • Wednesday's game between the Rams and the Aztecs marks the 72nd in the series between the programs, dating back to the first meeting - a 71-57 CSU road win - during the 1961-62 season. 
  • Colorado State holds a 37-34 advantage in the all-time series, and a 24-9 mark in games played in Fort Collins. 
  • CSU is 10-22 against the Aztecs as members of the Mountain West conference.   
  • The Rams and Aztecs split the regular-season series in 2011-12 and 2012-13, each winning twice at home. 
  • Colorado State fell 79-72 in overtime in the conference opener last year at SDSU, before capturing a 66-60 home win in the Aztecs' return trip to Fort Collins.

A win over San Diego State will...

  • Give Head Coach Larry Eustachy his 36th win at Colorado State and the 437th of his career. 
  • Improve the Rams to 38-34 all-time against San Diego State, including a 25-9 mark against the Aztecs in Fort Collins. 
  • Give the Rams' five straight wins in conference home openers. 
  • Mark the Rams' third straight home win the Aztecs. 
  • Push Colorado State's home win streak to three straight games, and give the Rams four straight home wins over Mountain West opponents.  
  • Give the Rams a 10-2 record at home this year and improve the team to 40-4 at home since the 2011-12 season.
  • End Colorado State's 10-game home stand with a record of 8-2. 
  • Push the Rams to 4-1 at home against ranked opponents over the last three seasons. 

MW Player of the Week

  • Colorado State junior guard Daniel Bejarano earned his first-career MW Player of the Week not on Dec. 30 after posting back-to-back double-doubles in the Rams' wins over UIC and Lamar.  Bejarano went for 10 points, 15 rebounds and five assists vs. the Flames.  Against the Cardinals, he became just the ninth Divsion I player since 1996-97 to post totals of 19 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists, and the first since Feb. 1 2012 (Julian Mavunga of Miami (OH)).

Rams in league play

  • Entering it's 15th season as a charter member of the Mountain West, Colorado State is 78-128 (.379) in regular-season action against MW foes since the formation of the league in 1999-2000. 
  • Entering the 2014 MW campaign, the Rams have posted three straight season with winning records in league play, going 9-7 in 2011, 8-6 in 2012 and a program-record 11-5 in 2013. 
  • The Rams only other season with a winning league record as a member of the MW came in the inaugural campaign, an 8-6 mark in 2000. 
  • The Rams' have only had two other stretches in their history with three straight winning records in conference play from 1960-62 under Jim Williams (Mountain States Conference) and 1996-98 under Stew Morrill (WAC).
  • The Rams did not play in a conference from 1901-1923, or during some of Jim Williams' most successful seasons from 1962-68.

Rams in MW openers

  • Since the formation of the Mountain West conference in 1999-2000, the CSU men's basketball team is 3-11 in Mountain West openers regardless of whether the opener is at home or on the road.  
  • In MW home openers, Colorado State is 8-6 all-time, having won four straight vs. Air Force (70-48 in 2010), Wyoming (73-60 in 2011), TCU (95-89, 20T in 2012) and Air Force (79-40 in 2013) entering Wednesday's matchup vs. San Diego State.

Looking ahead

  • Colorado State hits the road for the first time since a Nov. 19 trip to UTEP, traveling south to Albuquerque, N.M., for a Mountain West road contest against preseason favorite New Mexico. 
  • The tilt between the Rams and the Lobos is set for a 7 p.m. MT tipoff at The Pit. 
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action. 
  • The contest will also be broadcast nationally on ESPNU, with Steve Quis (play-by-play) and Miles Simon (color) on the call. 
  • The matchup is the 115th in the series. Colorado State trails 43-71 in the all-time series, with a 12-46 mark in games played in Albuquerque.
