Opening tip

  • Colorado State hosts the ninth game of its 10-game home stand on Dec. 28, welcoming the Lamar Cardinals in the Rams' final non-conference game of the season.  
  • The tilt between the Rams and the Cardinals is set for a 2 p.m. MT tipoff at Moby Arena. 
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action. 
  • Free streaming video is also available as part of the new Mountain West Network, at and 
  • The matchup is the second in the series. Colorado State defeated Lamar in the first matchup between the programs, winning 72-62 at Moby Arena on Dec. 30, 1978. 

About Lamar

  • Lamar enters Saturday's matchup against Colorado State with a 1-10 record on the year, including a 0-5 mark on the road. 
  • The Cardinals have lost seven straight contests since a 76-66 win over Savannah State on Nov. 21.  
  • Lamar is led by junior guard Nimrod Hilliard, a former Wisconsin Mr. Basketball, in his first season on the court for the Cardinals after transferring from South Dakota to Jacksonville College. 
  • Hilliard leads the team in scoring (15.6 ppg), three-pointers made (17) and attempted (44), free-throws made (35) and attempted (41), assists (54) and steals (22).
  • As a team, the Cardinals average 68.5 points per game, while giving up 79.8 per contest defensively. 
  • Head Coach Pat Knight is in his third year at Lamar, where he has compiled a 27-50 record. Knight is 77-111 overall as a DI head coach, including a four-season stint as the successor to his father, Bob Knight, at Texas Tech. 

Series vs. Lamar

  • Saturday's matchup marks only the second meeting all-time between Colorado State and Lamar.
  • The Rams won the first tilt in the series, downing the Cardinals, 72-62 at Moby Arena on Dec. 30, 1978.

Rams vs. the Southland Conference

  • Colorado State is 10-2 (.833) all-time against the current membership of the Southland Conference. 
  • CSU is 1-0 vs. Saturday's opponent, Lamar, 2-0 vs. McNeese State, 2-0 vs. New Orleans, 2-0 vs. Northwestern State, 3-1 vs. Oral Roberts and 0-1 vs. Sam Houston State. 
  • The Rams have never faced off Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, or Texas A&M Corpus Christi. 

A win over Lamar will...

  • Give Head Coach Larry Eustachy his 35th win at Colorado State and the 436th of his career. 
  • Improve the Rams to 2-0 all-time against Lamar. 
  • Push the Rams to 11-2 against the current membership of the Southland Conference.
  • Give the Rams a 9-2 record at home this year and improve the team to 39-4 at home since the 2011-12 season.
  • Move Colorado State to 7-2 through nine games of the team's current 10-game home stand.

  • Colorado State hosts the final game of a 10-game home stand, opening Mountain West play with a New Years Day matchup against No. 20/20 San Diego State. 
  • The tilt between the Rams and the Aztecs is set for a 7 p.m. MT tipoff at Moby Arena. 
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action. 
  • The contest will also be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, with Rich Waltz (play-by-play) and Pete Gillen (color) on the call. 
  • The matchup is the 72nd in the series. Colorado State holds a 37-34 advantage all-time against the Aztecs, including a 24-9 mark in Fort Collins.
