FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Plenty of basketball excitement will be in store for Rams fans in Moby Arena this winter.

Fans got an early peek at Colorado State’s men’s and women’s basketball team Monday night during Moby Madness before about 500 fans.  And when the event concluded, it was apparent the Rams will give fans plenty to cheer about.

Monday night’s event featured a three-point shooting contest, skills competition and dunk contest, and gave fans a sneak peak at the Rams' new-look rosters.

Daniel Bejarano, won the three-round dunk event after posting a score of 113. But it was newcomer John Octeus who stole the show when he jumped over women’s basketball team member Taylor Varsho, catching her over-the-head pass in mid-air before finishing. Octeus was awarded a perfect score on the dunk but it wasn't enough to overcome Bejarano's consistency.

For coaches Larry Eustachy and Ryun Williams, it was a chance to showcase their squads before Ram fans and the community.

Eustachy, named to the post last spring, inherits a team with six seniors that earned a trip to March Madness last year.  The Rams finished 20-11, losing to Murray State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Louisville, Ky.

A bulk of that team returns, including first-team All-Mountain West selection Wes Eikmeier.  The senior from Fremont,  Neb., led the Rams in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game.  Backcourt mate Dorian Green, another of the six returning seniors, was second at 13.5 points per game.

The Rams did suffer one crippling injury during preseason workouts.  Senior guard Jesse Carr is expected to miss the season with a torn ACL in his knee.  Carr, from Ainsworth, Neb., may apply for an additional year of eligibility and could return next season if granted the waiver by the NCAA.

One of the six seniors on the roster is a BIG addition:  6-10 Colton Iverson transferred from Minnesota and joins Eikmeier, Green, Carr, and skilled forwards Pierce Hornung and Greg Smith to give the Rams leadership and experience.  Hornung led the team by averaging more than eight rebounds per game, and Smith averaged 9.7 points per game.

The Rams also boast a pair of juniors in guard Dwight Smith and 7-0 center Trevor Williams.  Smith was a part-time starter and key reserve a year ago, while Williams was hampered with back injury problems.

Daniel Bejarano, who transferred to CSU from Arizona, figures heavily into the team’s plans this year.  When he signed with UA, he was the No. 13 shooting guard in the nation as ranked by Rivals.com.

Eustachy and the Rams face a challenging Mountain West campaign, with six teams including CSU, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and Wyoming all having won 20 or more games last year and earning postseason berths.

Eustachy isn’t the only new coach on the block.

Ryun Williams takes over the women’s program.  CSU was 13-17 last year including a 10-3 record in Moby Arena.

Senior Meghan Heimstra won the Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year award last year.  Joining Heimstra as a key returnee is junior Sam Martin, a second-team all-league pick in 2012.  Martin averaged 13.1 points, second most on the team.  In addition to Heimstra and Martin, CSU returns five letterwinners from last year, and Williams and his staff have new players on the roster.
