FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State men's basketball head coach Larry Eustachy announced Thursday that former Oregon and Lee College guard Fred Richardson III signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Rams' program for the 2014-15 season with two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

"We are excited to add Fred to our program," said Eustachy. "We feel very fortunate to add a player of his caliber at this point in the recruiting process.  He has good size and will bring a versatile skill set to our program.  He has experience at the Division 1 level, and played in one of the best junior college leagues in the country.  On top of being a good basketball player, Fred also is a great student and a person of high character"

A 6-6, 205-pound product from Houston, Texas, Richardson was a Top-50 recruit in the state, a Top-10 player in the city as a finalist for the Guy V. Lewis Player of the Year Award as a senior in 2011-12. He was a four-year letterwinner at Clear Brook High School, leaving the program as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,820 career points. As a senior, Richardson averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals per game, shot 50 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc as he led the Wolverines to a 29-4 record. He scored 20 or more points on 20 occasions and scored in double figures in all but one of 33 games. He was an all-district 24-5A first-team selection, garnering team MVP and offensive MVP honors. He was also a first-team pick and the offensive MVP as a junior, and was a three-time 5A all-Region III selection during his high school career.

As a freshman at Oregon in 2012-13, Richardson saw action in 10 games for the Ducks, averaging 5.1 minutes per game, shooting 47 percent (8-for-17) from the field, 38 percent (3-for-8) from 3-point range, and averaging 2.4 points and 0.8 rebounds per game for the Ducks, who went 28-9 and lost to eventual national champion Louisville in the Sweet 16.

Last season, Richardson competed at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, where he played in 18 games, averaging 15.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting 41.6 percent overall and 36.1 percent from beyond the arc. Richardson also shot nearly 74 percent from the free-throw line and dished out 1.8 assists per game, helping Lee to a 20-12 overall record.

Richardson chose Colorado State after drawing recruiting attention from Gonzaga, Marquette and Missouri, among other programs, following his sophomore season.
