Colorado State accepts bid to 2010 College Basketball Invitational
March 14, 2010 Complete Bracket in PDF Format By Danny Mattie FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State men’s basketball team earned its first postseason since 2003 on Sunday evening, accepting a bid to participate in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational tournament. “Our goal since coming to Colorado State three seasons ago has always been to make the postseason and win when we get there,” said Head Coach Tim Miles. “Accepting this bid is the first step in becoming a perennial postseason contender. I’m very excited for our team to have the opportunity to continue its season by competing in a tournament like the CBI.” The Rams (16-15) are coming off of their best season under Miles and will travel to Morehead, Ky., to face off against Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT in the opening round at Johnson Arena. CSU’s game will be televised live on HDNet, available locally on specific HD packages offered by Comcast (Channel 664), DirecTV (channels 79 and 306), and DISH Network (Channel 9422). Fans should look for the game’s availability in their area by visiting www.hd.net. Morehead State (23-10) finished second in its conference with a 15-3 regular-season record and lost in the OVC championship contest to Murray State March 6. Also included in the tournament field are: Akron, Boston, Charleston, Duquesne, Eastern Kentucky, George Washingon, Green Bay, Hofstra, Indiana State, IUPUI, Oregon State, Princeton, St. Louis and Virginia Commonwealth. First-round matchups are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, while the quarterfinals are slated for March 22. The semifinal round, set for March 24, and the three-game Championship Series, scheduled for March 29, March 31 and April 2, will be broadcast live on HDNet. Colorado State becomes the third Mountain West Conference program to compete in the CBI, following Utah (2008) and Wyoming (2009). The Utes followed up their run in the 2008 invitational with 2009 MWC regular-season and tournament championships, and an appearance in the 2009 NCAA tournament field of 65. Nine of the 16 programs that competed in the 2009 CBI tournament will compete in either the 2010 NCAA or National Invitation tournament fields, including four programs – Houston, Richmond, UTEP and Vermont – which will play for a national title in the NCAA tournament, and five NIT participants: Nevada, Northeastern, St. John’s, Troy and Wichita State.
