Opening tip

  • Colorado State hosts the first leg of the 2014 Border War against arch-rival Wyoming on Saturday afternoon.
  • Tipoff between the Rams and Cowboys is set for 4 p.m. MT at Moby Arena.
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action.
  • The matchup will also be broadcast live on ROOT Sports with Jerry Schemmel (play-by-play) and Dave Bollwinkel (color).
  • The game marks the 220th in the series between the Rams and Cowboys. Colorado State trails, 128-91 overall, but the Rams have won three straight and seven of eight since the 2009-10 season.
  • The matchup vs. the Cowboys is the Rams' annual "Orange Out" of Moby Arena. The team will don the school's original colors of pumpkin (orange) and alfalfa (green) as a nod to it's heritage as the Colorado A&M Aggies.

About Wyoming

  • Wyoming enters Saturday's game in a tie for third place with UNLV at 8-5 in conference play. The Cowboys are 17-9 overall on the year.
  • The Cowboys are riding a three-game win streak with wins vs. San Diego State and Fresno State and on the road at San José State.
  • Much of Wyoming's success this year has come at home however, as the Cowboys are just 3-7 on the road this year.
  • In its last game, Wyoming lost Larry Nance Jr. to an ACL injury. Nance led the team in scoring (15.4 per game), rebounds (8.6 per game), blocks (55) and steals (37).
  • The Cowboys feature two other players who score in double figures that will have to shoulder the load with Nance out. Riley Grabau is the team's leading scorer now with 11.5 points per game, while Josh Adams averages 11.3 per game.
  • Grabau also is third in the conference in three-pointers made with 63, and is first in the MW in free-throw percentage, connecting on 90.8 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe.
  • As a team, the Cowboys rank 10th in the MW in scoring offense, averaging 65.4 points per game, but as second in the league allowing just 59.8 points per game.
  • Wyoming also boasts the conference's top field goal percentage (.486), and is fourth in field goal percentage defense (.398).
  • Head Coach Larry Shyatt is in the third season of his second stint in Laramie, and his fourth season overall at the helm of the Wyoming program, where he has led the Cowboys to a 77-44 record.

Series vs. Wyoming

  • Saturday's game between the Rams and the Cowboys marks the 220th in the series between the two programs, dating back to the first meeting - a 20-17 CSU win - during the 1910-1911 season.
  • CSU trails in the all-time series to its Border War rival 128-91.
  • The Rams are 51-52 all-time at home against Wyoming.
  • Colorado State has won three straight over Wyoming, and seven of the last eight matchups overall, including four consecutive at Moby Arena.

A win over Wyoming will...

  • Move Head Coach Larry Eustachy's record to 41-22 at Colorado State and 443-280 overall.
  • Push the Rams' record to 15-13 overall, 6-9 (MW).
  • Improve the Rams' record vs. Wyoming to 92-128, and 52-52 at home.
  • Push CSU's win streak to four games overall against its Border War rival, and give the Rams a five-game home win streak over the Cowboys.
  • Improve the Rams' home record to 13-6 in 2013-14 season.

Eustachy vs. Wyoming

  • CSU head coach Larry Eustachy is 3-2 in his 23-year coaching career against Wyoming.
  • Eustachy first faced the Cowboys during his tenure at Utah State, going 1-2 against the Cowboys.
  • Since taking over at CSU, Eustachy is 2-0 against Wyoming, leading the Rams to a season sweep over the Cowboys last year.
  • Eustachy is 1-0 all-time in home games against Wyoming.

Noting the Orange Out

  • Saturday's game marks the fifth annual "Orange Out" of Moby Arena, a tradition which began in 2009-10.
  • The event pays tribute to the CSU's heritage as the Colorado A&M Aggies, as the team and fans don the program's original colors of "pumpkin" orange and "alfalfa" green.
  • Colorado State is 4-0 in "Orange Out" games:
     >> 2010 vs. Wyoming (W, 80-64)
     >> 2011 vs. New Mexico (W, 68-62)
     >> 2012 vs. Wyoming (W, 54-46)
     >> 2013 vs. San Diego State (W, 66-60)

Looking ahead

  • Colorado State travels to Las Vegas looking for a regular-season sweep of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels.
  • Tipoff between the Rams and Rebs is set for 9 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action.
  • The matchup will also be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz (play-by-play), Doug Gottlieb (color) and Kristine Leahy (sideline).
  • The game marks the 48th in the series between the Rams and Rebels. Colorado State trails, 35-12 overall, and is just 4-20 all-time in the series in games played in Las Vegas.
  • Colorado State cruised to a 75-57 victory over UNLV in the first matchup this season at Moby Arena on Feb. 5.
