COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State senior forward Pierce Hornung earned his second Mountain West Player of the Week nod on Monday after leading the Rams to a pair of home victories over Boise State and rival Wyoming.
Hornung recorded back-to-back double-doubles while helping the Rams extend their program-record home win streak to 26 games with the victories over the Broncos and Cowboys.
In Wednesday's 77-57 win against the Broncos, the Arvada, Colo., native was 8-of-11 (.727) from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range, while registering game-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds. He collected five offensive rebounds in the contest and added three assists and one steal.
Hornung followed that performance with a 12-point, 11-rebound effort in the Rams' 65-46 victory over Wyoming on Saturday. He counted six offensive boards among his rebound tally while also notching one assist and matching a career high with two blocks in the game.
For the week, Hornung averaged 17.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the field, including 75 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the arc, and registered 11 offensive rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal.
With the victories, Colorado State improved to 18-4 overall, and extended the nation’s third-longest home win streak to 26 games. At 5-2 in Mountain West play, the Rams sit tied for second in the league standings, one game behind first-place New Mexico.
The honor marks the fifth of the season by a Colorado State player. Hornung also earned the nod on Dec. 24. Senior center Colton Iverson earned league player of the week honors on Nov. 12 and Nov. 26, while senior guard Dorian Green was tabbed on Jan. 21.
