About Fresno State

  • Fresno State enters Saturday's contest tied with Colorado State and UNLV in seventh place at 1-2 in league play.
  • The Bulldogs, in their second year as a member of the MW, are coming off of a 71-65 home win over Air Force, after back-to-back losses vs. UNLV (75-62) and at Boise State (86-79) to open up their MW schedule.
  • The Bulldogs are just 1-6 away from home this season, and 1-5 in true road games with a neutral-site loss vs. Florida. The Bulldogs' lone road win came in their season opener, a 98-97 overtime victory at UC Irvine on Nov. 8.
  • Five players average double-figures scoring on the season for Fresno State, led by sophomore uard Marvelle Harris at 16.6 points per game. Cezar Guerrero, a sophomore guard who transferred from Oklahoma State, ranks second at 14.5 points per game, just ahead of senior guard Tyler Johnson (14.1 ppg). Paul Watson and Allen Huddleston each average 10.1 points per contest.
  • Tyler Johnson ranks as the Bulldogs' leading rebounder, pulling down seven rebounds per contest.
  • Cezar Guerrero ranks second in the MW in assists per game, dishing out 4.3 helpers per contest.
  • Offensively, the Bulldogs rank fifth in the MW scoring 75.2 points per game, and rank 10th in the league allowing 72.2 points per contest.

Series vs. Fresno State

  • Wednesday's game between the Rams and the Bulldogs marks the 24th in the series between the programs, dating back to the first meeting - an 84-66 CSU win - during the 1964-65 season.
  • Colorado State is 10-2 all-time against the Bulldogs in games played in Fort Collins, having won five straight home games since a 79-73 loss in 1993-94.
  • Overall, the Rams have won four straight games in the series, including a home win in 2010-11 (87-74), and a sweep last seasons that included wins on the road (74-63), at home (74-67) and in the MW tournament (67-61).

A win over Fresno State will...

  • Give Head Coach Larry Eustachy his 37th win at Colorado State and the 438th of his career.
  • Push the Rams streak of home games without consecutive losses to 60 games, dating back to February of 2010 when the team lost back-to-back road games vs. No. 16 BYU (92-70) and No. 10 New Mexico (72-66).
  • Improve the Rams to 13-11 all-time against Fresno State, and push CSU's record against the Bulldogs in Fort Collins to 10-2.
  • Even Colorado State's record in MW play at 2-2, and give the Rams two straight wins after an 0-2 start with losses vs. San Diego State (71-61) and at New Mexico (80-73).
  • Extend the Rams' win streak against Fresno State to five straight games overall, four-in-a-row since the Bulldogs joined the MW in 2012-13.

Eustachy vs. Fresno State

  • Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy has played against Fresno State four times in his 23-year career as a head coach, posting a 4-0 mark against the Bulldogs.
  • Eustachy first faced the Bulldogs during his tenure at Iowa State, leading the Cyclones to a 79-70 neutral-court win over Fresno State during the 1998-99 season.\
  • Eustachy guided the Rams to three wins over the Bulldogs in his first season at Colorado State. CSU won 70-63 at Fresno State, and captured a 74-67 home win before completing the season sweep with a 67-61 win in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Reese's MW Championship in Las Vegas.

Closing in on 1,000

  • Colorado State junior forward J.J. Avila is closing in on 1,000-career points, and is poised to pass the milestone in the Rams' contest vs. Fresno State on Saturday.
  • Avila, who has already scored 304 points on the season for the Rams, posted 691 points as a freshman and sophomore at Navy, giving him a career total of 995 heading into this weekend's action.

Looking ahead

  • Colorado State head back out for their third road game in the 11 days, traveling to Logan, Utah, for a Wednesday night matchup against MW newcomer Utah State.
  • The tilt between the Rams and the Aggies is set for a 7 p.m. MT tipoff.
  • The game will air across the Colorado State Radio Network, including flagship 105.5 FM ESPN, with Gary Miller and Brian Roth calling the action.
  • The contest will stream, free of charge, on the new Mountain West Network at CSURams.com/videos and TheMW.com.
