About San José State

  • San José State enters Wednesday's contest tied with Colorado State and Fresno State at 0-2 in league play.
  • The Spartans, in their first year as a member of the MW, have suffered a home loss to Nevada (62-50), and a road loss against Utah State (86-67). The losses snapped a four-game win streak after a 2-6 start to the season.
  • SJSU is 4-1 this season at home, with wins over Cal State Fullerton (81-59), UC Davis (89-85, 3OT), Westminster (73-66) and Pacifica (87-59), and the loss to Nevada.
  • The Spartans are led by freshman guard Rashad Muhammad, the only freshman to rank in the top 20 in the MW in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He ranks second in the MW averaging 3.1 three-pointers per game, behind only Boise State's Jeff Elorriaga.
  • Senior forward Chris Cunningham ranks as SJSU's top rebounder at 6.9 boards per game, 11th in the league.
  • Offensively, the Spartans rank 10th in the MW scoring 70.6 points per game, and rank 9th in the league allowing   72.3 points per contest.
  • Head coach Dave Wojcik is in his first year at the helm of the SJSU program, and his first season as a head coach, after spending the previous three seasons as associate head coach at Boise State.

Series vs. San José State

  • Wednesday's game between the Rams and the Spartans marks the seventh in the series between the programs, dating back to the first meeting - a 91-65 CSU win - during the 1969-70 season.
  • Colorado State is 2-0 all-time against the Spartans in games played in San José, capturing a 66-64 win during the 1996-97 season, and a 58-41 win the following year.
  • The Rams have also captured three home wins over SJSU, and posted a 61-57 neutral-court victory at the Pearl Harbor Invitational on Dec. 23, 1999, the last meeting between the two programs.

A win over San José State will...

  • Give Head Coach Larry Eustachy his 36th win at Colorado State and the 437th of his career.
  • Snap CSU's four-game road losing streak.
  • Improve the Rams to 7-0 all-time against San José State, and push CSU's record against the Spartans in San José  to 3-0.
  • Give the Rams their first Mountain West win of the season, and their fifth conference road win in two years under Larry Eustachy.

Eustachy vs. San José State

  • Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy has played against San José State eight times in his 23-year career as a head coach, posting a 5-3 career mark against the Spartans.
  • As the head coach of Utah State, Eustachy went 5-2 against SJSU, winning the first five matchups in the series before two straight losses late in the season to his then-conference rivals in the WAC.
  • Eustachy last faced SJSU on Dec. 2, 2001 as the head coach at Iowa State.  The Spartans bested Eustachy's Cyclones 64-62 in a contest played at ISU.
