About Nebraska Omaha
Nebraska Omaha enters Saturday's contest with a 6-10 mark to open the 2011-12 season, having lost two straight at Seattle (91-72) and vs. Coppin State (93-83) at the Elgin Baylor Classic Dec. 29-30 in Seattle, Wash.
Head coach Derrin Hansen is in his seventh season at the helm of the Mavericks' program where he has amassed a record of 116-78.
The Mavericks are in the process of reclassifying as an NCAA DI institution, and will join the Summit League, along with CSU Head Coach Tim Miles' former program, North Dakota State, in 2012-13.
The Mavericks are led by senior guard Mitch Albers who averages 18.8 points per game and is tied with junior forward Alex Welhouse for the team lead with 27 three-pointers on the season.
Welhouse also ranks as the team's top rebounder, pulling down 6.8 boards per contest.
Offensively, the Mavs average 75.6 points per game, while giving up 78.6 points per contest on defense.
Series vs. UNO
Saturday's matchup between the Rams and Mavericks marks just the second in the series.
Colorado State defeated UNO in the initial matchup, 88-64, on Nov. 24, 2004 at Moby Arena.
A win over UNO will...
Move the Rams to 10-4 to open the 2011-12 season.
Give Colorado State a five-game winning streak.
Put the Rams in the win column for the fifth straight time at Moby Arena.
Give the Rams' a 2-0 all-time mark against Nebraska Omaha.
CSU, UNO ties
The Colorado State basketball roster features four players - Jesse Carr, Wes Eikmeier, Dwight Smith and Greg Smith - from the state of Nebraska.
Brothers Greg and Dwight Smith hail from Omaha, where they starred at Ralston High School, just more than six miles from the UNO campus.
UNO assistant coach Pat Eberhart has strong ties to Colorado State, having served as an assistant coach at CSU under former head coach Dale Layer from 2001-05, before taking over as head coach at CSU-Pueblo from 2005-11.
