Niko Medved returns to the Rams for his sixth season as an assistant coach in 2012-13.

During his tenure at Colorado State, Medved has helped rebuild a program, which has improved in each of his seasons in Fort Collins. During the past five years, the Rams have enjoyed some of the best successes in program history, including post season births in each of the last 3 seasons (2010-CBI; 2011-NIT) capped off in 2012 with a 20-win season, including 3 top 25 wins, earning the Rams an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament .The NCAA bid was the program's first at-large bid in 22 years.

While at CSU, Medved has been responsible for helping to coordinate almost every aspect of the program, including serving as the director of player development and recruiting coordinator. He has also been integral in working with the perimeter players.

This season, Medved will serve as the Rams' recruiting coordinator. Recruiting for CSU, Medved landed two-time all-Mountain West performer Andy Ogide (currently playing professionally in Europe). In addition, he can be credited with helping to scout and attract the likes of Pierce Hornung (2011 MW Sixth Man of the Year and 2012 all-MW defensive team selection), NABC all-district guard Dorian Green, first-team all-conference guard Wes Eikmeier, starters Colton Iverson and Greg Smith, and University of Arizona transfer Daniel Bejarano.

Prior to Colorado State, Medved spent one season at the University of Minnesota where he was involved in all aspects of the program, including: recruiting, scouting, player development, and fundraising.

Preceding his year at Minnesota, he spent seven seasons as an assistant at Division I Furman University, including serving as the interim head coach in the spring of 2006. Medved was instrumental in helping rebuild a struggling program. Before his arrival, Furman had posted just three winning seasons in the past 19 years; Medved left Furman posting three consecutive winning seasons as well as four out of the last five, including the school's first appearance in the Southern Conference championship game in over 20 years. With a reputation as a strong and successful recruiter, both domestically and internationally, Medved helped the Paladins recruit the highest scoring freshman class in the country.

Medved started his career at the University of Minnesota in 1992 where he was a student manager and assistant. He also served as the associate head coach at Macalester College from 1997-1999. Additionally, Medved worked four years as an instructor at the prestigious Nike All-America camp.

A native of St. Paul, Minn., Medved completed his B.S. in kinesiology in 1997 and his master's in sport management in 1999, both from the University of Minnesota. Medved married the former Erica Nesselroad in August 2011. Nesselroad is an assistant director for corporate relations in CSU's Office of Advancement. The couple makes their home in Fort Collins.
