FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The No. 27 Colorado State men’s cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the 75th annual NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday. The Rams will run the 10-Kilometer race with the nation’s top talent at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at 10 a.m. MT.
CSU, which has been ranked in the USTFCCCA’s top 30 coaches’ poll for five consecutive weeks, will look to all-Mountain Region runners Alex Muntefering and Christian Meyer to pace the squad. Although, the Rams’ success has been very much a team effort this season, with four different athletes taking top honors for CSU throughout the year.
The Rams may be a little unfamiliar with the course, having not run at Pre-Nationals earlier this season, but seniors Ben Larson, Meyer and Muntefering each ran the course two years ago at Pre-Nationals in 2011. As a sophomore Meyer was the top finisher for the Rams in that race, clocking 25:18. He placed 60th overall.
The top 40 individual finishers will be awarded All-America honors. The last men’s All-American was Mike Nicks, who finished 36th overall in 2004.
Men’s Championship History
Colorado State is making its 11th appearance at the championships since the NCAA meet was first recognized in 1938. In 10 appearances, the Rams have finished as high as fifth place, with three top 10 finishes overall.
Both the men’s and women’s races will be streamed live via NCAA.com beginning at 10 a.m. Click here for the live video link.
