FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Two weeks after a solid finish at the Mountain West championships, the Rams are set to compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships.
The regionals will take place Saturday at East Bay Golf Course in Provo, Utah. The men’s 10K race will start at 11 a.m. MT with the women’s team competing in the 6K race soon after at 12:15 p.m. MT. Results will be posted online at www.NCAA.com and www.byucougars.com.
The top two teams from every region will automatically advance to nationals. The rest, the at-large qualifiers, will be announced Sunday, no later than 7 p.m. ET.
This competition will be a good time for the Rams to show off their hard work from the season. At the Mountain West championships, the women’s team finished second out of eight teams, while the men’s finished third. The women’s team is currently ranked fifth in the region and the men are ranked 10th by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
“We’ve got some good momentum going," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill.
Ellie Keyser and Nicole Peters will help lead the women’s team, after both finished in strong fashion at the MW championships. Spenser Lynass and Christian Meyer will guide the men’s team after their excellent finish within the top 10, out of 51 athletes.
“I feel like both teams are really prepared for regionals,” said Berryhill.
Both teams anticipate finishing on a strong note in hopes on competing at nationals.
