FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State track and field program will host the Colorado State Classic this Saturday at Hughes Stadium. The Rams will host an open 5K race starting at 8:30 a.m. The collegiate women's race starts at 9:45 a.m. and the men will start at 10:30 a.m.
The collegiate field includes Adams State, Colorado College, Blackhills State and Northern Colorado. Adams State's women are currently No.1 in the NCAA Division II rankings with the men's team ranking second.
Colorado State's women's team earned a No. 13 national ranking according to USTFCCCA and won the Wyoming Invitational to open the 2007 season. Senior Heather Loseke was selected as the Mountain West Conference women's cross country Athlete of the Week after winning the 5K race in a time of 14:42:01.
Sophomore Jeremy Freed finished third with a time of 22:08.6 last week leading the men's team to a second-place finish. Air Force edged the men's team by just seven points.
The open course at Hughes Stadium is a 5K course consisting mainly of hard-packed dirt with some grass in spots. It is mostly flat with a few gradual inclines and will be the site of the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Regional.
