DeLoach-Soukop won bronze in London in August
Oct. 23, 2012
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Two months ago, former Colorado State track and field All-American Janay DeLoach-Soukup earned international acclaim by winning a bronze medal in the long jump during the Olympic Games in London.
Now, Ram fans have a chance to meet her in person as part of activities Saturday.
DeLoach-Soukup will be recognized by CSU Saturday during festivities surrounding the Rams’ “Orange Out” game with Hawaii.
DeLoach-Soukup will join football coach Jim McElwain for “Ram Walk” upon the team’s arrival at Hughes Stadium. At approximately 3 p.m., DeLoach-Soukup will accompany Ram coaches and players as they arrive at the stadium and parade into the locker room.
She will also be in Ram Town to meet and greet fans from 3:30-4 p.m., and will then serve as an honorary team captain for the pregame coin flip on the field.
During the first timeout in the first quarter, DeLoach-Soukup will be honored on the field by athletic director Jack Graham and introduced to the Hughes Stadium crowd.
DeLoach-Soukup was an All-American track and field performer at Colorado State, and has since been competing on the international circuit. Last summer, she became only the third former CSU athlete in history to earn an Olympic medal. DeLoach-Soukup joined decathlete gold medalist Glenn Morris (1936 Berlin Games) and swimmer Amy Van Dyken (1996 Atlanta Games, 2000 Sydney Games) as having earned a medal.
Having returned to Fort Collins for a bit of rest and relaxation following her marriage to former CSU track athlete Patrick Soukup, DeLoach-Soukup now lends a hand to the Rams’ program as a volunteer coach.
Sometime in the near future, she’ll return to training with an eye on returning to the Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
Kickoff Saturday is 5 p.m., for the Rams’ annual “Orange Out” game. Tickets are available in one of the following convenient manners:
