FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Tyler Schultz, who is set to join the Colorado State track and field program for the 2013 season, added to his list of accomplishments last month as he was named the South Dakota Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Schultz, a native of Custer, S.D., won state titles in both the discus and shot put during his senior season at Custer High School. His career-best throw of 70 feet, 6 inches in the shot put was both a state record as well as the nation’s top high school mark in 2012.

Schultz ended his high school career with four state titles, three in the discus and one in the shot put. More impressively, Schultz maintained a 4.08 grade-point-average throughout his four years at Custer High School.
