FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Three Colorado State track and field athletes will compete this weekend at the USA Junior Nationals held in Bloomington, Ind.
Kiah Hicks and Jake Schneeberger each qualified for the shot put, discus and hammer throws.
“It’s uncommon to have a freshman qualify for three throwing events at junior nationals,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard, “but to have two freshmen is a first in my career. Kiah and Jake have been challenging each other all season to hit the junior national qualifying standards. It’s been fun seeing these two athletes push each other to get better.”
Hicks had an outstanding first year with the Rams, setting three freshman records in the indoor weight throw, outdoor shot put and outdoor hammer throw. Schneeberger was also impressive in his debut season at CSU. The Fort Collins, Colo., native came just short of setting CSU’s freshman records in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw.
“They both should have a bright future for the Rams if this first year is any indicator,” added Bedard.
Trey Richardson will also represent CSU this weekend as he competes in the triple jump.
Richardson recorded a season-best jump of 48 feet, 8 inches in the event at the Jack Christiansen Invite in April. He also claimed eighth at the Mountain West outdoor championships in May.
Schneeberger, who will be the first to compete for the Rams, will throw in the hammer event at 1 p.m. MST Friday.
