USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS - The Colorado State men's track & field team received recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday for one of its top years in program history, as the Rams were ranked eighth in the organization's NCAA Division I Program of the Year standings.

The purpose of the USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is to recognize the programs that have had the most success between cross country, indoor and outdoor competition in a single academic year. In order to be eligible, individual programs must have qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of the three seasons. A program's ranking is reflective of its final national finish for each season.

Colorado State's men recently capped off a historic year, which was highlighted by the program's highest-ever indoor finish (No. 12). That followed a 17th-place finish for the Rams' men at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships, their highest finish since 2003. Most recently, the Rams' men finished 33rd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

During their historic indoor season, the Rams' men had a program-record five first-team and second-team All-Americans. Three Rams were first-team All-Americans, including shot put national champion Mostafa Hassan. Hunter Price earned first-team All-American honors with the Mountain West's highest-ever heptathlon finish (fourth), while Cole Rockhold earned first-team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meters. Each of Jerrell Mock and Grant Fischer were second-team All-Americans in the indoor 5,000 meters.

Hassan was also a first-team All-American for the outdoor season after a runner-up finish in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Hassan was one of a program record-tying four first-team and second-team outdoor men's All-Americans from CSU, along with Josh Cogdill (decathlon), Grant Fischer (10,000 meters) and Jerrell Mock (10,000 meters). The Rams had not had as many first-team and second-team All-Americans since 2000.

Along with the Rams' national cross country finish at No. 17, the Rams also placed fourth in the ultra-competitive NCAA Mountain Regional behind only the nation's top three teams. The Rams finished second at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships, with Mock finishing as the runner-up individually.
