FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Three throwers and one sprinter will represent Colorado State at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., beginning Wednesday.
This is the highest number the Rams have sent to the championships since 2008, when CSU sent a contingent of eight athletes to the final rounds.
Trevor Brown will be making his third appearance at the championships. The senior is one of just two athletes in the Mountain West that will compete in two events. He'll run in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles.
Brown set a school record and tied his Mountain West record in the quarterfinals of the 110 hurdles at 13.55 seconds. He enters the semifinal round as the No. 7 seed. The Colorado Springs native's top time in the 400 hurdles is 49.64 (49.85 converted for altitude) this year. Brown obtained an 18-seed after running a 50.79 in the quarterfinals.
Jessica Sharbono and Kiah Hicks will both throw in the discus competition. Seeded ninth after a throw of 174 feet, 7 inches in the prelims, Sharbono has reached a career-best distance of 193-1 this season, which ranks fourth in the country. She'll look for similar numbers in her second trip to the final.
Hicks, who is making her first appearance at the NCAAs, threw a season-best 176-4 in early May at the Cowpoke Open. The junior advanced to the final squeezing into the final spot with a No. 24 seed after she threw 172-10 in the prelim.
Freshman phenom Aaliyah Pete will compete in the shot put after a stellar performance in the preliminary round. The Nebraska native topped her previous career best in four of her six attempts finishing with a PR of 54-8.75. She enters the final as the No. 11 seed.
Brown will start things off in the semifinal of the 400 hurdles at 7:15 p.m. MT Wednesday. Below is a complete schedule for all four athletes.
