Track and field recap: CSU's Peters advances to finals of 3,000-meter steeplechase
June 6, 2012 By Chris Feller DES MOINES, Iowa – Nicole Peters advanced to the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Wednesday, after finishing the semifinal round of the NCAA championships in 10 minutes, 12.16 seconds at Drake Stadium. The senior from Houston, Texas, finished 13th overall and sixth in her heat. The time is a new personal best. Peters will compete Friday in the finals of the event at 5:30 p.m. MST. “Nicole ran great tonight,” said distance coach Bryan Berryhill. “She had a great race. Now she gets the chance to run and be an all-American Friday. She has had a great year and just did what she’s been doing all year; went out there with a good attitude and consistent effort. She had a great last two laps, which she usually does. It was a great effort on her part.” CSU’s other competitor at the championships, Trevor Brown, will compete in the semifinal round of the 110-meter hurdles Thursday at 5:50 p.m. MST.
