FORT COLLINS, Colo.– Colorado State’s track and field team begins competition at the 2012 Mountain West Outdoor Championships Wednesday, at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A number of Colorado State athletes will be favored in their respective events. Trevor Brown holds the conference’s top time this season in the 110- (13.75 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (51.67). Alex Balsiger (1:50.16) and Nicole Peters (10:13.22) recorded the top MW times in the 800-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Cate Brus and Amy Medina (5 feet, 8 inches) are tied with the best mark in the high jump.
Brown will look to improve on his second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2011 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, in which he earned all-Mountain West honors. In total eight CSU athletes earned all-conference recognition last year, in addition to one relay team. CSU’s men’s team took fifth place, while the women finished sixth.
CSU enters the meet ranked fourth in the Mountain region on the women’s side and eighth on the men’s side.
Competition begins at noon Wednesday with the 100-meter hurdles as part of the heptathlon.
