FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team will send groups of its sprinters, hurdlers and throwers to Laramie, Wyo., Friday to participate in the Wyoming Invite as a chance for fine-tuning before the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 8-11. While those athletes compete at the University of Wyoming, a few CSU jumpers will participate in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Air Force Twilight Open.

Senior Liz Johnson and freshman Tyler Schultz lead the throwers into action Friday in hopes of continuing the recent success that the group of athletes has experienced. Schultz and Johnson both set personal records in the shot put at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. Johnson also set a personal best in the discus at the meet with a mark of 178 feet, 5 inches, which ranks 16th nationally. Schultz recorded the fourth-best personal best in school history in the men’s shot put at the Jack Christiansen Invitational, tossing 59-4.75.

A number of hurdlers and throwers will also participate at the Wyoming Invite, which will take place at the Louis Madrid Sports Complex in Laramie. The women’s 4x100-meter relay will begin the track events, while a majority of the field events will also begin at 1 p.m. MT. The meet will follow an abbreviated schedule, with distance events absent from the list of events.
