PUEBLO, Colo. --  The Colorado State track and field team had a breakout performance Saturday at the CSU-Pueblo Open, held in the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.

"It was a good overall day and a good meet," said Head Coach Brian Bedard.  "I think the number of quality performances across the board was surprising but good to see. There was a huge jump in focus and performance this week. It was a very positive meet for us. "

On a day full of highlights the hurdles crew was particularly impressive from top to bottom. Lindsey Keller (14.14 seconds), Kalie Kirk (14.20) and Stephanie Gerber (14.36), swept the first three spots in the women's 100-meter hurdles.

Gerber (1:02.7) and Kirk (1:03.89) also took second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.

Trevor Brown recorded another first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.12), as well as a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (53.56).

"The hurdlers were the highlight of the meet," added Bedard. "The hurdles crew had a really good day."

Not to be outdone, the relay crew also put up an impressive showing, sweeping the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay on both the men's and women's side of the events.

Shanetria Thomas, Meagan Robinson, Icenia Anderson and Bethany DeLong took first in the 400-meter relay, finishing in 46.89. Lindsay Banning, Robinson, Gerber and Marissa Smith, won the 1,600-meter relay, clocking in at 3:51.78.

On the men's side, Brown, Jeff Richmond, Jacob Haas and Antoine Harrison came out victorious in the 400-meter relay, posting a time of 41.49. Sam Lynass, Zach Browning, Seth Monson and Tim Schmuhl took first in the 1,600-meter relay, finishing in 3:16.13.

The Rams also swept the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Christian Meyer (9:35.14) won the men's side of the event, while Kaitlin Hanenburg (11:31.63) placed first on the women's side.

DeLong led the Colorado State's jumps crew, winning the long jump, with a mark of 19 feet, 0 inches. Meaghann Peak (39-8.5) took second in the triple jump and Cate Brus (5-6) placed third in the high jump.

Jonathan Edmunds (23-9.5) and Ryan Wasilawski (23-0.5) finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump. Edmunds (47-6.5) later earned another second-place finish in the triple jump.

Jessica Sharbono paced the throwers, winning the shot put (46-7.25) and discus (163-5). Kiah Hicks took second in both events, with respective throws of 45-3.5 and 154-08.

Alec Pott earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw (184-05) and a third-place finish in the shot put (52-9.5).

Kenisha Throughsingh took second in the javelin throw, with a toss of 126-03.

Alex Balsiger won the 800-meter run in 1:52.86 and Monson took second in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.53. Emily Briggs placed second in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 18:37.28.

Josh McMillin placed second in the pole vault (15-7).

"The staff was all excited about their groups, " added Bedard, "which is good to see because all areas did very well. It seems sometimes you have a third of the team do really well or half the team do really well. Today everyone performed well."

The Rams return home next to host the Fum McGraw Triangular.
