FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team begins the 2013 outdoor season Friday, sending athletes to The University of Colorado in Boulder to compete in the Jerry Quiller Classic. The meet takes place at Potts Field, beginning Friday and wrapping up Saturday.
Colorado State is coming off of a fourth place finish on the men’s side and a seventh place finish on the women’s side in the indoor conference championships, which took place from Feb. 21-23. Seventeen athletes earned all-conference honors. Nine individual athletes, including three-time men’s 60-meter hurdles conference champion and record-holder Trevor Brown, received all-conference honors while two distance medley relay teams provided the remaining eight athletes that received all-conference awards.
Colorado State has historically shown more success in outdoor seasons than indoor seasons. The team hopes for an improvement over its finishes in the conference championships on both the men’s and women’s sides during the 2013 outdoor season. The road to a successful outdoor season begins with the Jerry Quiller Classic, which was formerly known as the Potts Outdoor Invitational.
The meet is optional for Ram track & field athletes. A handful of athletes, largely composed of hurdlers, sprinters, and throwers, will compete at Potts Field on Friday and Saturday.
The Jerry Quiller Classic begins at 2 p.m. MT Friday with the women’s hammer throw and men’s javelin throw. The meet continues Saturday at 11 a.m. MT with a variety of field events and the women’s steeplechase, and action wraps up with the running of the men’s 4x400 relay on Saturday afternoon.
