Rams sweep men's and women's MW Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Feb. 14, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -  The Colorado State track & field team became the first team in Mountain West history to sweep all four weekly conference honors in a single week, as Mostafa Hassan, Lorenda Holston, Jerrell Mock and Aaliyah Pete were honored by the league on Tuesday.

On the men's side, Mock was named MW Indoor Track & Field Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Hassan earned his second MW Indoor Track & Field Men's Field Athlete of the Week award this season. On the women's side, Holston earned her third MW Indoor Track & Field Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Pete was named MW Indoor Track & Field Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

All four recorded one of the top five marks in Mountain West history in what was a record-breaking weekend for the program. Among those times and marks was a new conference record in the 60-meter hurdles set by Holston, who ran a time of 8.06 at the Don Kirby Invitational. With that time, Holston also broke the CSU 60-meter hurdles record for the fourth time this season. The Fayetteville, Ga. native ranks 10th in the nation in the event this season.

Hassan just missed the Mountain West record in the shot put, as his mark of 66-8.5 ranks second just 1.5 inches behind Jim Roberts' mark of 66-10 in 2001. Hassan's mark, which ranks second in the nation, also broke Magnus Lohse's 2005 CSU record (65-8.75) by nearly a foot.

Mock was the third Ram to break a CSU record this weekend, as his time of 13:44.65 in the 5,000-meter run topped his own school record of 13:46.22 last season. Mock's time ranks fourth in Mountain West history, and ninth in the country.

Pete rounded out a historic weekend with a mark of 55-8.5 in the shot put, a mark that ranks second in school history and third in Mountain West history. Pete ranks 13th in the nation in the shot put this indoor season.

With this week's sweep, the Rams have now combined for a conference-best 10 weekly MW honors this indoor season. Holston's three honors are the most of any track athlete in the conference this season, and are second overall behind the four field honors awarded to Air Force's Shelley Spires. Hassan and Cole Rockhold have each received weekly conference honors twice, while Mock, Pete and Hunter Price account for the final three honors.

The Colorado State track & field team returns to competition this weekend at the Rocky Mountain Classic in Laramie, Wyo. The Rams will compete on Friday, Feb. 17.
