FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team will send a handful of hurdlers, sprinters, and distance runners to the Joe Davies Open Saturday at the Steinhauer Fieldhouse in Golden, Colo.
The meet will be hosted by Colorado School of Mines, whose men’s team is ranked 21st in the latest USTFCCCA Division II rankings. Colorado State is coming off a big weekend in which it sent athletes to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Team Challenge in Colorado Springs, Colo. After the busy weekend, many Rams will get the weekend off while others travel to the Joe Davies Open.
After the Joe Davies Open, the Rams travel to Boise, Idaho for the 2013 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which occur Feb. 21-23. This weekend’s meet is the final chance for many athletes to make the roster that Colorado State will take to Boise.
“This is a final tune-up opportunity for athletes along with some earning a spot on the Mountain West championship team. We’ll be making the decision on the team next week,” said Colorado State head track & field coach Brian Bedard.
The Joe Davies Open begins Friday, but the Rams won’t participate until Saturday. Saturday’s action begins with the women’s shot put and women’s long jump at 10 a.m. MT.
