FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After staying in Colorado for three straight meets to begin the indoor season, the Colorado State track & field team travels to Lincoln, Neb. Friday to compete in the 38th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The Rams are coming off yet another successful performance at the Air Force Invitational, boasting a variety of top-five finishes in many event areas. The team will attempt to continue its 2013 success at its first meet in the month of February.

Last year’s Husker Invitational featured three individual event wins for Colorado State, a total that the Rams hope to increase at this season’s meet. The Rams captured five first-place finishes at last weekend’s Air Force Invitational, including two wins in the throws events. Sophomore Jake Schneeberger will look to build upon his victory in the men’s weight throw. He tossed 61’7” at the Air Force Invitational, tops in the Mountain West conference so far this year. Sophomore Kiah Hicks, who holds the Mountain West lead in the women’s shot put by over two feet, will also look to increase the personal record throw of 50’4.5”, set at the Air Force Invitational.

Ram newcomer Ashley Reid leads the women’s jumpers into action in Lincoln, coming off of an incredible performance at the Air Force Invitational. She jumped 5 feet, 9.75 inches for a second-place finish in her very first meet as a Ram, securing the top spot in the Mountain West for the women’s high jump by over two inches.

Other athletes to watch at this weekend’s meet are men’s jumper Graham Gilliland, who returned from injury for a victory in the triple jump at the Air Force Invitational, and freshman men’s thrower Tyler Schultz, who took second place in the men’s shot put last weekend with an outstanding throw of 56’11.25.

Head Coach Brian Bedard cites this week's meet as an important one heading into the conference season, especially when it comes to the middle distance and distance runners. "Our middle distance and distance crew sat out the first couple meets for training purposes, and we thought the Husker Invitational would be a great meet for them to start the year at. It's a great track and a low altitude environment, so we're excited to see some of their times."

The 38th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. The University of Nebraska will host a field of 24 other Division I teams from a variety of conferences, including the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and Conference USA. The meet kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. MT with the opening events of the men’s heptathlon.
