Final Results

EUGENE, Ore. – Colorado State’s Janelle Lincks closed out her career with Second Team All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on the final day of the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.

CSU finishes with a combined five First Team and Second Team All-Americans this outdoor season, matching the Rams’ single-season outdoor record. Lincks joins 2017 First Team All-American Mostafa Hassan (shot put) and 2017 Second Team All-Americans Josh Cogdill (decathlon), Grant Fischer (10,000 meters) and Jerrell Mock (10,000 meters). As a team, the Rams finished at No. 33 on the men’s side with eight points.

The Rams finished with five Honorable Mention All-Americans: Lorenda Holston (100-meter hurdles), Linnea Jonsson (hammer), Aaliyah Pete (shot put), Hunter Price (decathlon) and Cole Rockhold (5,000 meters). Overall, CSU finishes with 10 combined First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention All-America honors, by far the program’s most since Honorable Mention All-America honors were first awarded in 2011.

Lincks placed 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday to become CSU’s fourth All-American in the women’s steeplechase and first since 2012. Lincks finished Saturday’s race in 10:31.15. The senior reached the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a program-record time of 10:00.02 in the semifinals on Thursday. The previous school record had stood for over seven years.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State distance coach Art Siemers
“Janelle had a great meet, setting a new school record to reach the finals. For her to make it to the steeplechase finals is big for our program. For a lot of the girls that she trains with, they see that it can be done and that they’re not that far off. The fact that she finished the year so well – won the steeplechase at conference, won her heat at prelims, had a huge PR and school record to reach the finals - Janelle really opened the door for more of our athletes to qualify next year.”

NOTES
- Janelle Lincks joins Nicole Peters (2012), Kristen Hemphill (2010) and Meg Larson (2002) as CSU All-Americans in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
- The only other CSU team with five All-Americans in a single season was the 2000 Rams. Each of Bryan Berryhill, Mike Klass, Casey Malone, Liz Toman and Brian Trainor earned honors on the 2000 team.
- Including Honorable Mention All-Americans, the Rams’ 10 athletes honored are by far the most since Honorable Mention All-America honors were first awarded in 2011. Prior to this season, the most the Rams had earned was five in 2014 (two First Team All-Americans, two Second Team All-Americans and one Honorable Mention All-American in 2014).
