COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – At the conclusion of the second day of Mountain West championship action at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex, the men’s team sits in third place, while the women are currently in fifth.
Cate Brus finished the heptathlon in fourth place with 4,788 points, earning the women’s team a fifth place score with five points, with one event scored. In the final three events Brus placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, sixth in the javelin at 86-4 and fourth in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2 minutes, 30.37 seconds.
“The multi-event athletes started us off great,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “They had personal record performances in some events and competed hard for the Rams.”
McMillin ended the day with three top three finishes. He placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 120-01. He tied for second in the pole vault, reaching height of 15-03, and he took third in the javelin with a throw of 183-08.
Competing in his first Mountain West outdoor championship, Green performed well in the final event, the 1,500-meter run. He clocked a time of 5:08.87 for a fourth place finish.
After the conclusion of the multi events, the men participated in the hammer throw. Sophomore Alec Pott threw a Rams’ season-best 188-10, finishing third. Ken Harriman added one point to the Rams’ score with an eighth place distance of 173-11. Carson Rowley (166-08) and Jake Schneeberger (150-06) rounded out the field, placing 10th and 11th, respectively.
“Alec Pott, an athlete from Poudre High School, had a great day in the hammer,” commented Bedard.
The men finished Day 2 in third place with 13 points, seven behind host school Air Force (20) and 10 points behind leader Boise State (23).
“It was a solid day for the team and the athletes are excited for tomorrow,” added Bedard.
