Track & field recap: CSU excels at CU Invitational

Rams capture seven first-place finishes

2011 (Junior): Placed eighth in the pole vault at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 12)...Took third in the pole vault at the Twilight Open (Feb. 18)...Won the pole vault at the Colorado Invite (April 9), clearing a height of 11 feet, 7 inches.

2010 (Sophomore): Placed second in the pole vault at the Don Barrett Air Force Duals (Jan. 30), clearing a height of 3.7 meters...Won the pole vault at the Tom Benich Track and Field Classic (April 3), clearing a height of 3.60 meters.

2009 (Freshman): Rachel scored twice in her first outdoor season, finishing first in the pole vault (3.20m) at the Wyoming Gem City Duals (April 18) and fifth (3.20m) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 24). She also had a first-place finish, posting her season best in the pole vault (3.50) at the CU Invitational (April 11).

High School: Rachel was a varsity letterwinner in three sports while attending Douglas High School in Douglas, Wyo. In 2008, she was named all-league in basketball. She was named all-state in cross country (2004) and track (2005-08). She was track team MVP in both 2006 and 2008. She won Wyoming state team championships in cross country (2004), basketball (2005) and track (2005-06). She holds the school pole vault record (3.35m), set in 2008.

Rachel was born Oct. 4, 1989, to Tom and Anne Saunders. She has three sisters, Brittanie, Marissa, and Emma. Her sisters Brittanie and Marissa ran track and cross country at CSU. She is majoring in human development and family studies.
