EUGENE, Ore. – Just after finishing their senior seasons at Colorado State, three former Ram track and field athletes are headed to the U.S.A. 2009 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships being held in Eugene, Ore. Alex Godell, Missy Faubus and Kristen Hemphill will all compete with the best in the nation on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Hemphill, a former Mountain West scholar-athlete, will be the first former Ram to compete, as her 3000-meter steeplechase run begins at 8:20 p.m. MST on Friday. If she makes it to the final round, it will take place Sunday at 2:14 p.m.
Godell, who failed to move on to the final round of the hammer throw in the NCAA Championships in early June, will have a chance to match up with the top throwers in the nation. The hammer throw event will take place on Saturday, Jun. 27 at 4:25 p.m. Godell qualified for National Championships with a mark of 67.37 meters, which tied him for 20th out of 34 with Nate Rolfe of the University of Georgia.
After completing a stellar collegiate career, Faubus will look to rebound after not advancing past the first round of the shot put in the NCAA Championships earlier in the month. With a qualifying throw of 16.16 meters, Faubus will compete with the best in the nation at 6:15 on Friday.
