FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The outstanding NCAA careers for track and field seniors Missy Faubus and Alex Godell ended on Wednesday at the NCAA track and field championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Both throwers did not advance out of the preliminary rounds of their respective events with Faubus placing 21st in the shot put and Godell finishing in 22nd place in the hammer throw. Only the top 12 finishers in the prelims advance to the finals.

Faubus’ best throw came on her second attempt when she reached 50 feet, 2.5 inches. Godell marked with a throw of 194 feet, 3 inches, on his first attempt but then fouled on both of his final two throws.

“I’m obviously disappointed with today’s performances,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “I wish they could have finished their CSU careers better than this but you have to take the bad with the good. We knew it (advancing to the finals) wasn’t going to be an easy task and when you’re not on your game at the NCAA meet, you’re in trouble.”

Godell has qualified for the USA Track and Field National Championship meet, held from June 25-28 in Eugene, Ore., while Faubus has hit the “B” qualifying standard and has a chance to qualify for the meet.

“I’m happy Alex will compete again at the USA meet because he’s come so far for us,” said Bedard. “He was a walk-on and will now leave CSU as a three-time conference champion in the hammer and with having competed at the national meet in both indoor and outdoor. Missy transferred to CSU and we only had her for two seasons but she just fit in right away. She was an instant leader and believed in what we are doing at Colorado State. Both Alex and Missy have been great faces for this program and they will be remembered for what they did on and off the track.”

Junior middle-distance runner Wil Buchanan now becomes the lone Ram remaining at the meet and will make his NCAA championship debut on Thursday evening in the 1,500-meter run prelims. He is seeded 22nd in a stacked field of middle-distance runners.

CBS College Sports will be airing live coverage of the NCAA championships on Friday (5 p.m. MDT) and Saturday (11 a.m. MDT). Fans can also watch live on the NCAA Web site by clicking here.
