COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State junior Nigel Joseph and senior Missy Faubus have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, announced Tuesday by the MWC.
Joseph set a personal-best and hit a regional-qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles last weekend to earn the award. The Calgary, Alberta, native clocked a time of 52.04 seconds to finish first in the event at the Ram Open held in Fort Collins, Colo. Joseph’s time ranks fourth in the MWC this season and 66th in the NCAA.
Also competing at the Ram Open, Faubus won two events and secured a runner-up finish in another to lead Colorado State. She started the day tossing a first-place, regional-qualifying shot put mark of 53-feet, 0.25 inches (16.16m). The mark ranks first in the league this season, 15th in the nation and is the second-farthest throw in MWC history. From Bakersfield, Calif., Faubus went on to finish second in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 175-1 (53.37m), which places her seventh on the league’s season-best list. She finished the day earning a crown in the discus with a toss of 156-4 (53.37m).
