2009 (Junior): Travis recorded a first-place finish in the triple jump (13.67m) at the Potts Invite (Jan. 23). He also recorded a 10th-place finish in the triple jump (13.86m) at the MWC indoor championships. During the outdoor season he recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump (13.86m) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 24). He scored in the triple jump, finishing third (13.86m) at the Front Range Invitational (May 2). He also scored with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump (14.03m) at the MWC championships.

2008 (Sophomore): During the outdoor season, Travis posted three scores in the triple jump. At the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 25), he finished fourth (13.33m), at the Front Range Championships (May 3) he finished fourth (13.37m), and at the MWC outdoor championships (May 14) he finished in eighth place (13.05m). He also earned an MWC Scholar-Athlete award.

2007 (Freshman): During the outdoor season, Travis posted three scores. At the Rob Upton Invitational (March 24), he finished in sixth place in both the triple jump (13.21m) and the long jump (5.97m). At the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 21), he finished in sixth place in the triple jump (13.23m). Later that season he posted a personal best in the triple jump (13.73m) at the Colorado State Ram Open (May 5).

High School: Travis was a varsity letterwinner in both track and football while attending Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colo. In 2005, he was named second-team all-Continental League in the triple jump and in 2006 he was named to the first team. He was a track team captain in 2006. In 2005, he was part of the Continental League football champions.

Personal: Travis was born March 5, 1988, to Roland and Sue Smith in Denver, Colo. He has a brother, Jason, who is a football player and track athlete at CSU. He is majoring in liberal arts.
