2008 (Junior): During the indoor season, Marissa posted two scores in the mile, finishing third (5:08.61) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 1) and third at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 28), earning all-conference honors in the process. During the outdoor season, she posted five scores, including three wins. She won the 800 meters (2:16.32) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 25). At the Front Range Championships (May 3) she won both the 800 meters (2:16.34) and the 1,500 meters (4:37.05). At the MWC outdoor championships (May 14), she finished in sixth place in the 1,500 meters (4:32.15) and in seventh place in the 800 meters (2:14.09).

2006-2007 (Freshman-Sophomore): Marissa competed at the University of Tulsa. At the 2007 C-USA indoor championships (Feb. 24) she set personal bests in both the mile (5:02.04) and the 3,000 meters (10:36.17). Among her highlights during the 2007 outdoor season was a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters (2:15.54) at the K.T. Woodman Classic (April 15) and a fifth-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:37.34) at the C-USA outdoor championships (May 12).

High School: Marissa lettered and was named all-league and all-state in three sports while attending Douglas High School in Douglas, Wyo. She was named MVP in both track and cross country. She won conference championships in track and basketball from 2000-05 and won the Wyoming state championship in both track and cross country from 2000-05.

Personal: Marissa was born Jan. 28, 1987, to Tom and Anne Saunders. She has three sisters, Brittanie, Rachel and Emma. Her sister Brittanie ran track and cross country at CSU, while her sister Rachel currently runs track at CSU. She is majoring in human development and family studies.
