2009 (Sophomore): Jake began the indoor season with a first-place finish in the mile run (4:23.88) at the Don Barrett Air Force Duals (Jan. 31). He finished the season with an 11th-place finish in the 5,000-meter race (15:41.50) at the MWC indoor championships. During the outdoor season, he scored with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:48.74) at the Wyoming Gem City Duals (April 18). He followed that up with his best performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a third-place finish (9:06.85) at the Oregon Relays (April 23). Jake finished his season running the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet.
2008 (Freshman): Jake's freshman outdoor season was highlighted by two wins in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His first (9:40.63) came at the Tom Benich Classic (April 5) and the second (9:30.10) came at the Front Range Championships (May 3). Another season highlight came at the Colorado State Ram Open (April 19), where he finished second in the 1,500-meters (4:07.23). He also qualified for the Midwest Regional in the steeplechase. He earned an MWC Scholar-Athlete Award at the end of the season.
High School: Jake lettered in three sports while at Crater High School in Central Point, Ore., where he was a three-time city champion in cross country and track. He won the Oregon cross country state championship in 2007. He also holds the sophomore 1,500-meter record and won the academic Scholar-Athlete in both his junior and senior years. Personal:
