2009: Redshirted outdoor. Kristen qualified for and competed in the USA outdoor championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

2008 (Junior): Kristen was one of the Rams' top scorers, both during the indoor and outdoor seasons. She won the 3,000-meter event (10:24.57) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 1). She then won the 3,000 meters (10:22.04) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 28) earning all-conference honors, and also scored in the 5,000 meters with an eighth-place finish (18:17.15). During the outdoor season, she won the 3,000 meters (10:16.40) at the Front Range Championships (May 3). She won the 5,000 meters (17:32.14) and placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:24.56) at the MWC outdoor championships (May 14). Finally, she scored with a sixth-place finish in the steeplechase (10:15.72) at the Midwest Regional (May 30), setting a personal best. She also earned an MWC Scholar-Athlete award. At the NCAA championships (June 12-13), she finished in 13th place in the steeplechase (10:30.78)

2007 (Sophomore):
During the indoor season, Kristen posted three scores, including a second-place finish in the mile (5:19.46) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 2). She also finished in fifth place in the mile (5:01.56) and in eighth place in the 3,000-meters (10:22.00) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 22). During the outdoor season she posted two scores. She finished in fifth place in the 1,500-meters (4:53.50) at the Rob Upton Invitational (March 24) and in fifth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:39.61) at the MWC outdoor championships (May 9). She was also named to the all- Midwest Region team by virtue of her sixth-place finish in the steeplechase (10:29.48) at the NCAA Midwest Regional (May 26), and earned an academic all-conference award as well.

2006 (Freshman): As a true freshman, Kristen was a consistent scorer throughout both seasons, posting five scores in three different events. During the indoor season, she finished in second place in the 800-meters (2:18.51) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 3) and in fifth place in the same discipline (2:16.53) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 23), setting a personal best in the process. During the outdoor season, she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:33.63) at the Rob Upton Invitational (March 25), and scored in two disciplines at the MWC outdoor championships (May 10), finishing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:58.57) and in fifth in the 5,000-meters (17:45.30). She was also named to the USTFCCCA all-academic team.

High School: Kristen lettered in both track and cross country while attending Los Alamos High School in Los Alamos, N.M. She was named all-state three times in cross country and six times in track, and was part of three New Mexico state champion teams in cross country and one in track. She graduated with school records in the 800-meters (2:16), 1,600-meters (5:08) and 3,200-meters (11:05), and was the co-captain of the cross country team her senior year. She was also named to the National Honor Society.

Personal: Kristen was born June 30, 1987, to Doug and Geralyn Hemphill in Los Alamos, N.M. She has three brothers, Daniel, Kevin and Michael. She is majoring in nutrition.
