2008 (Junior): Alex defended his Mountain West hammer throw title with a win (61.22m) at the MWC outdoor championships (May 14). He scored consistently throughout the outdoor season, including personal bests in the hammer throw (62.49m) at the Front Range Championships (May 3) and in the shot put (15.37m) and discus throw (54.24m) at the MWC outdoor championships. He also posted a score at the Midwest Regional (May 30) with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw (61.05m). He also scored during the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 28) in both the weight throw (19.19m) and the shot put (15.34m). He was given the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award for the fourth straight year and was awarded the 2008 Dick Kitamura Memorial Scholarship. He was also a student recipient of the Waterpik Excellence in Education Award.

2007 (Sophomore): Alex won the Mountain West hammer throw title (60.29m) at the MWC outdoor championships (May 9), where he also scored in the discus throw with a seventh-place finish (50.87m). During the indoor season he scored at the MWC indoor championships (Feb 22) in both the weight throw with a sixth-place finish (17.32m) and in the shot put with a seventh-place finish (15.28). He was given a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award for the third straight year, was named to the all-Midwest Regional team for hammer throw, and was awarded the prestigious Merril Gheen Award.

2005-2006 (Freshman): Alex redshirted the 2006 outdoor season and the 2004-05 indoor season. During the 2005-06 indoor season, he scored at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 23) with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw (16.79m) and a seventh-place finish in the shot put (14.81m). In 2005, he gave a preview of his future success when he scored in his first-ever MWC outdoor championship hammer throw event (May 11) with an eighth-place finish (51.24m). He was given a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award in both years and in 2006 was named academic all-district by ESPN The Magazine.

High School: Alex earned varsity letters in both track and football while attending Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colo. He was twice named all-conference and once all-state in football, and was the Colorado state champion in the discus throw. He was named track team MVP and was a track and football team captain.

Personal: Alex was born Dec. 7, 1985, to Ralph and Barb Godell in Denver, Colo. He has a sister, Erika. He is majoring in economics.
