Hanenburg claimed three straight Colorado state cross country championships

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Colorado State track and field program on Thursday announced the signing of 11 student-athletes to National Letters of intent. Seven of the signees are from the state of Colorado, highlighting the Class of 2010.

"I feel really good about those committed to us," said Head Coach Brian Bedard. "I think it is a result of the staff's hard work. I think we have probably worked harder than we ever have this year with recruiting, so hopefully it will pay off, and it looks like it will."

The 11 athletes signed by Colorado State this week:

Trevor Brown, Wasson High School; Colorado Springs, Colo.
Seth Butler, Liberty-Benton High School; Findlay, Ohio

Bethany DeLong, Laurel-Concord High School; Laurel, Neb.
Alison Forrester, Rock Canyon High School; Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Morgan Griffin, Lewis-Palmer High School; Colorado Springs, Colo.
Kaitlin Hanenburg, Classical Academy; Colorado Springs, Colo.
Sabrina Jones, Aurora Central High School; Aurora, Colo.
Amy Medina, Mountain View High School; Loveland, Colo.
Alex Richards, Shawnee Mission South High School; Shawnee Mission, Kan.
Jessica Sharbono, Billings West High School; Billings, Mont.
Kayla Wein, Broomfield High School; Broomfield, Colo.

Trevor Brown: Brown, from Wasson High School, was the 2009 state runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles and the third-place finisher in the 300-meter hurdles. He also competed in the AAU national championships, placing eighth in the 110-meter hurdles and ninth in the 400-meter hurdles. Brown, an academic letterman, also played football for the Thunderbirds.


 

 

Seth Butler: Butler is from Findlay, Ohio, where he attended Liberty-Benton High School and competed in cross country and track and field. Butler claimed state championship titles in the 800 meters in both 2008 and 2009.  He also is a member of the National Honor Society.

Bethany DeLong: DeLong is from Laurel, Neb., where she attended Laurel-Concord High School and also competed in basketball. She took state championships in the 200-meter dash, long jump, and 4x100-meter relay in 2009. A year earlier, she also was state champion in the 100-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay, and 4x400-meter relay in 2008. Her team won the state track championship in 2009, and she holds the Class C state record in the long jump. Additionally, she participated in National Honor Society.

Alison Forrester: Forrester is from Highlands Ranch, Colo., where she attended Rock Canyon High School and also competed in volleyball. She had a pair of second-place finishes in the high jump in both the 2008 and 2009 Class 4A Colorado state championships. Away from the track, she was a member of her school's National Honor Society.

Morgan Griffin: Griffin is a three-sport athlete from Lewis-Palmer High School, competing in volleyball, basketball and track. She was the 2009 state runner-up in the pole vault and was a state qualifier in the 200 meters and 400 meters. Additionally, she garnered honorable mention academic all-state honors.
 
Kaitlin Hanenburg: The 2008 Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Hanenburg helped guide Classical Academy to four Class 3A cross country state championships and three track state championships. She claimed the individual state cross country title three years straight from 2007-09. Hanenburg was the runner-up at the Nike Cross Country Southwest Regional Meet in 2009. She also captured individual state titles in the 3,200 meters and 1,600 meters in both 2008 and `09. The state runner-up in the 800 meters in 2008, she also was state runner-up in the 3,200, 1,600 and 800 meters in 2007. Recently, the Colorado Sportswomen gave her the organization's 2010 award for the sport of running.

Sabrina Jones: Jones is a three-sport athlete at Aurora (Colo.) Central High School. She was the runner-up in the triple jump at the Colorado Class 5A state championships in 2009. She was also a state qualifier in the high jump.
 
Amy Medina: Medina, who captured the 4A state titles in the triple jump in 2009 and the high jump in 2008, joins the Rams after a highly successful career at Mountain View High School in Loveland, Colo. Medina also competed in volleyball for the Mountain Lions.

Alix Richards: Richards is from Shawnee Mission, Kan., where she attended Shawnee Mission South High School and also competed in volleyball. Richards was the runner-up in the discus at the 2009 Class 6A Kansas state championships, and claimed third place in 2008. She was also a state qualifier in the shot put. She competed in the 2009 AAU national championships, taking fourth in the young women's discus. Richards is also a member of the National Honor Society, the National Society of High School Scholars, and was on the principal's honor roll.

Jessica Sharbono: An all-state and all-conference athlete every season of her career, Sharbono was the 2009 Class 2A Montana state champion in the discus and third-place finisher in the shot put. Two years earlier, in 2007 as a freshman, she also finished first in the discus and third in the shot put. She hails from Billings West High School in Billings, Mont. In 2009, Sharbono was the No. 9-ranked high school athlete in the discus in the United States. She won the prestigious Golden West Invitational discus title in 2008, and was runner up in 2009. A member of the National Honor Society, she also participated in basketball for the Bears, earning academic all-state recognition in both basketball and track every season.

Kayla Wein: Wein is from Broomfield, Colo., where she attended Broomfield High School and also competed in volleyball. She claimed the state championship in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2008 Colorado state championships, and also took the championship in the 100-meter hurdles in 2007. She also qualified for state in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
