Track & Field preview: Rams look to continue success at New Mexico Classic

Currently, the CSU men’s track team is ranked number seven in the Mountain Region, and the women are ranked as number two. The Rams will open action on Friday at Albuquerque Convention Center, featuring teams from San Diego State, Colorado School of Mines, New Mexico Highlands, Abilene Christian, Sacramento State, University of Arizona, Utah State, Western State, New Mexico State, Colorado State-Pueblo, Mesa State, Air Force, University of New Mexico, and San Francisco State. “This should really be a high caliber meet,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “There are going to be a lot of teams there, and lots of competition in every event. We’re taking some good athletes down there, and we would just like to continue to improve and get ready for the conference meet coming up in a few weeks.” For the men, the athletes competing include Colin Anderson, Spenser Lynass and Daniel Wallis in the mile, Kelby Dias, Brian Fox, Antoine Harrison, Terrence McGaughy and Josh Murphy in the 200-meter dash, Nnamdi Agwu, Ryan Billups and Travis Smith in the triple jump, Kirk Cooper and Doug Dieker in the pole vault, and Ryan Friese and Tyler Short in the 800-meter run.
On the women’s side, athletes include Meagan Berg, Leah Elmshauser and Serena Johnson in the weight throw, Kendra Ger, Sarah Heuer, and Nicole Peters in the 3000-meter run, Tanesha Johnson in the 60-meter dash, Olivia Downing and Tanesha Johnson in the triple jump, Kendra Gerk, Nicole Peters and Ellie Rastall in the 5000-meter run, and Olivia Downing and Sonni Russell in the high jump.
