DeLoach Breaks Long Jump Record In First Meet

Colorado State senior Janay DeLoach started the indoor track & field season with a bang, winning the long jump with a school record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 21-0.75 at the Wyoming Open this afternoon. Colorado State competed in a non-scoring affair against Wyoming and Colorado. DeLoach was also the top collegian, finishing second overall in the 55 meters with a time of 7.02. Senior Rae Backes won the high jump after clearing 5-8 and senior Katie Lloyd was second in both the high jump (5-6) and long jump (19-11) and was victorious in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.10. Senior Haley Hunt also won the shot put with a throw of 45-5.75. For the men, senior Trey Eder was a double champion, winning both the shot put (55-4.25) and weight throw (61-7.75), while junior Jason Schutz was second in the weight throw (61-2.75) and Tyson Williams was second in the shot put (50-6), sophomore Alex Godell was third (47-3.5) and Schutz was fourth (45-9). Freshman Kevin Wills won the high jump, clearing 6-2.75, while fellow freshman Sulaiman Sayyid was second overall and the top collegian in the 55 meters, running a 6.36. Freshman Ryan Friese also won the 400 meters, clocking a 50.45.
Colorado State now breaks for the winter holiday, returning to competition on Jan. 19 at the Potts Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado. |
