2009 (Junior): Sonni had a second-place finish in the high jump (1.60m) at the Air Force All-Comers Meet (Jan. 16). She scored twice during the remainder of the indoor season, finishing fifth in the high jump (1.65m) at the Air Force Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 13) and third in the high jump (1.75m) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 26). Sonni scored once during the outdoor season with a first-place finish (1.65m) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 24).

2008 (Sophomore): During the indoor season, Sonni scored twice in the high jump, finishing fourth (1.65m) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 1) and seventh (1.65m) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 28). During the outdoor season, she posted five scores. At the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 25), she finished fourth in the triple jump (11.13m) and fifth in the high jump (1.65m). At the Front Range Championships (May 3), she finished second in the triple jump (11.22m) and third in the high jump (1.60m). Finally, at the MWC outdoor championships (May 14), she finished fourth in the high jump (1.65m). She also earned an MWC Scholar Athlete award.

2007 (Freshman):
During the indoor season, Sonni posted two scores, finishing fifth in the pentathlon (2,946 points) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 2) and finishing second in the high jump (1.75m) at the MWC indoor championships, setting a personal best in the process and earning her all-conference honors. During the outdoor season she posted two scores in the high jump, finishing fifth (1.65m) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 25) and sixth (1.65m) at the MWC outdoor championships. She also earned an academic all-conference award.

High School: Sonni was a varsity letterwinner in three sports while attending Fruita Monument High School in Fruita, Colo. She was named second-team all-Southwestern Conference in basketball and won two Colorado state titles in the high jump. She was part of the track and field city champions from 2003-05. She holds the school records for the high jump (1.55m) and long jump (5.40m).

Personal: Sonni was born Dec. 3, 1987, to Joe and Vicki Russell in Grand Junction, Colo. She has two brothers, Tom and B.J., who was a football player at Mesa State College. She is majoring in health and exercise science.
