2009 (Junior): Kristen started the indoor season recording her best long jump (5.18m) and best 55-meter hurdles (9.75) at the Wyoming Power Meet (Dec. 6). She had her best performance in the high jump (1.60m) at the Air Force Indoor All-Comers Meet (Jan. 16). She had good performances at the MWC indoor championships, finishing 13th in the pentathlon (3,011). Kristen also had an impressive outdoor season. She recorded a pair of third-place finishes in two events, the javelin (36.92) and the high jump (1.55m) at the Rob Upton Invitational (March 28). She won the Glenn Morris heptathlon (4,889), including a season-best distance in the javelin (40.56m) (April 25). One of her best performances of the season came at the MWC championships (May 13), as she recorded season bests in many of her events in the heptathlon, scoring 4,997 to finish third.
2008 (Sophomore): During the indoor season, Kristen scored twice in the pentathlon, finishing in second place (3,390 points) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 1) and in seventh place (3,454 points) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb 28). During the outdoor season she scored twice at the MWC outdoor championships (May 14), finishing in eighth place in both the heptathlon (4,751 points) and the high jump (1.60m). She earned an MWC Scholar-Athlete award at the end of the year.
2007 (Freshman): Kristen scored twice during the indoor season, finishing fourth in the pentathlon (3117 points) at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 2) and eighth in the high jump (1.60m) at the MWC indoor championships (Feb. 22). She also earned an academic all-conference award.
High School: Kristen was a four-time letterwinner in three sports while attending Sterling High School in Sterling, Colo. She was named all-northern conference in track (four times), volleyball (twice) and basketball (twice). She won state championships in basketball (2005), volleyball (2006) and the high jump (2006). She holds the school record for most volleyball digs and in the high jump.
Personal: Kristen was born Aug. 9, 1987, to Terry and Nancy Kugler in Fort Morgan, Colo. She has a brother, Steve, and a sister, Lynelle. Her sister-in-law, Meg Larsen-Kugler, was a distance runner while she attended CSU. She is majoring in history and social studies education.
