High School: Emily lettered in track, cross country, basketball and volleyball while attending Stevens High School in Rapid City, S.D. She was a member of three 2A state championship track teams, during a streak in which Stevens reached 13 straight 2A track & field titles, which is tied for a national record. She was selected as a tri-captain of her high school team in 2008. In 2007, she claimed the state championship in the 300-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles, and in 2006 claimed the state championship in the 300-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. She was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that holds the South Dakota state record (3:53.49).

Personal: Emily was born June 15, 1990, to Joel and Kathleen DeVries in Rapid City, S.D. She has an older sister, Kimberly. She is majoring in art.
